Tips On Healthy Living - The pregnant coffee lovers can now breathe a little easier. For a study recently published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found no effect of caffeine on infant intelligence.
In
the study mentioned that the children of mothers who regularly drink
coffee during pregnancy have an average Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is
the same as an ordinary child. Children of mothers who drink coffee also did not have more behavioral problems than children in general in the future.
Researchers
from The Ohio State University College of Medicine reported the results
after seeing compounds derived caffeine, paraxanthine, in the blood of
2,197 pregnant women. After the child is born and aged 4-7 years, researchers then matching the data with IQ and behavior.
"Taken
as a whole, we think our results it can provide security for pregnant
women who love to consume caffeine within reasonable limits that one or
two cups of coffee per day," said one researcher, Sarah Keim, as quoted
by LiveScience on Monday (23/11/2015).
Related
to the study conducted by Keim and colleagues actually not the first
study to examine whether coffee is safe for pregnant women. In 2012, other researchers also found that mothers habit of coffee
drinking does not make the baby later more frequently wake up at night.
The
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists does suggest that
pregnant women consume caffeine to less than 200 milligrams per day or
the equivalent of one to two cups of coffee.
This is because there are still many unknowns about the impact of caffeine on pregnancy.
